Substantiation
The Substantiation tab is where users can see and action claims that require substantiation by providing material facts in their supporting documents. Similar to the Review and Disclosures tabs, the workflow in the Substantiation tab is organized as a list of work units. However, in this tab, these units are referred to as ‘Claims’ instead of ‘Comments.’
Similarly to the Review and Disclosures areas of the platform, you can "Accept" (Substantiate) or Dismiss Substantiation Comments (i.e., claims) individually or in bulk.
When dismissing Claims, users can leave a dismissal note, and will have to select between the following reasons:
- Does not require substantiation.
- Substantiated outside of Norm.
- Addressed by content change.
- To Discuss with Norm Team.
- Other.
In order to use the substantiation component, you upload supporting files or paste in URLs/links from websites for claims. Then, you click "substantiate" and the Norm platform will identify whether the claims are contained and substantiated within the uploaded supporting documents.
If the claim was successfully substantiated then the "Unsubstantiated" mark/status will change to "Substantiated" and will allow you to view the supporting evidence, which was found, in the document viewer.
If a supporting quote was found, but does not entirely substantiate the Claim, the Claim’s status will be changed to “Needs Action” and a rationale as to why the claim was not substantiated will be shown.
Note: while there is no limit globally to the number of pieces of content you can upload, there is a limit per-Comment of 40 pages for a document and ~30 minutes for an audio file.
